Mia Parres from The Expandables on HGTV Canada chats with Home Trends Magazine and shares her secrets to success.

You have a very busy schedule. How do you find balance in your life?

I like to balance work with play and exercise. I train with a CrossFit trainer, do hot yoga and spin! This gets my endorphins going, and allows me to focus when juggling my TV gig, design work and clients.

What’s an item in your home that you can’t live without?

I would have to say my photobooks! I’m a big collector of memories and I love making digital hard cover books filled with them.

What made you want to pursue a career in design?

My father is a theme park architect and my mother is an event planner. I grew up around incredible mentors. They have allowed me to follow my design dreams all over the world, from London, England to study architecture to New York City to study interiors. Having them believe in me has brought me to where I am today

What’s the most memorable project you’ve done on the show?

My most memorable project on The Expandables has to be when we are able to give a family an additional space for their in-laws, something like an entire floor that gives them not only a place to retreat, but also their own bathroom. I love having family around and it’s so wonderful to have your in-laws come and stay to help you with your kids.
