Mid-Century Modern

Mid-century modern furniture, once a functional design style, is as much prevalent today as it was in the past. This retro “look” has made a huge come-back and it feels like it is here to stay as a staple in our homes. (If you watch the T.V. series Mad Men, note the furniture – this is it!).

This particular style established itself between the 30’s to the 60’s. Mid-century designers known as modernists created sleek and simply formats. It was all about clean lines and no fuss. However, during this era, colour was not so subtle. In contrast to the purity of the form, hues were bright and vibrant – blues, yellows, reds and greens often combined with black and white.

Today replicas as well as the authentic pieces are currently in demand as they have the ability to integrate nicely with other interior aesthetics – both modern and traditional
