  1. Grey.

It appears grey is trendy across the board in 2016. Use this timeless, gender-neutral shade in your baby’s nursery and easily accent it with accessories and decor of any colour. The best part about grey: it’s easy to match!

  1. Animal prints.

2016 calls for bunnies, kittens, elephants and horses. Stencil the nursery walls with your favourite zoo attraction, and give the same treatment to pillows, blankets and mobiles. Don’t worry about whether your animals belong together or not; the first couple of years of your child’s life should be whimsical and creative, so go ahead and mix your lions with your butterflies.

  1. Nature and botanical.

Stumped for wall decor? Why not paint the bottom of your walls with grass, flowers and trees that appear to be sprouting from the carpets and teach your child to appreciate nature early on.

  1. Pastels.

Pastel colours are the go-to when it comes to baby walls. Soft and dusty shades are soothing to the eye and transition well as children grow out of their baby stages. Try: dusty rose, light jade, soft pinks and golds

  1. Geometric shapes.

Keep things fresh and modern with zigzags on the wall, asymmetric checkers or layered squares. If you’re not quite ready to make the commitment to geometry on your walls, opt for a rug or window treatments with like patterns instead.
