Meet the Home Owners:
With both children attending a post secondary school near by and her father having recently passed, it made sense for Debra to move home with her two children to help care for her mother.
The Kitchen Story:
This 1950’s home had been renovated decades ago to include a second kitchen in the basement so that it could be used as a rental suite. Debra’s mother, who loved to be in the kitchen, has always used this space for her preserving and “messy or stinky” cooking. This outdated kitchen shows its age with old appliances, a leaky sink and a bright orange countertop. The lighting in this space is poor and they have temporarily strung an light blub over the stove for extra task lighting.
The Dream Kitchen:
Debra’s dream is to create a safe, functional kitchen space where her mother can continue cooking, baking and teaching her skills to the younger generations for years to come. Proper lighting is definitely needed, along with plumbing repairs and new cabinetry and countertops.
