Originally built in 2010 when darker colors were more popular, these homeowners wanted an update! The goal was to create a light, bright and playful space that would be innovative and offer improved functionality. They wanted their fun loving side to show in the space by using color without going overboard. Designer Annaliesse Kelly worked with sharp contrasts, shapes, and clean lines for this kitchen. She then introduced color through new furnishings and décor.
For contractor Kevin Kennett of Wood Valley Projects, this project had its own special twist as the home was originally built by his father’s company! One of the biggest challenges with this project was the tight timeline. The homeowners have university age children who were moving back and they wanted the renovation done before the kids returned! Kevin was able to make this happen, while integrating some exciting features and thoughtful details into the space, including Bocci plugs in the backsplash and island and strip lighting in the closet. A custom desk area with retractable millwork was integrated into the design, allowing the office space to disappear behind custom stained oak doors that blend seamlessly with the kitchen cabinetry.
A favorite feature in the space for both the contractor and the designer is the smart glass window above the kitchen sink which can change from frosted to clear using a control system. This provides flexible privacy and natural light as needed! The stunning stonework on the kitchen island and the motorized television mount to view the TV comfortably from the kitchen or the living room are other favorite features that really make a statement in this space!
