Holiday decor doesn’t have to break your budget. There are many DIY projects that are not only inexpensive, but look great too. Here are some easy Christmas decorations you can make from ball ornaments in an hour or less.
Ball ornaments are inexpensive and a great item to use to make holiday decorations. You can even find shatterproof ornaments so that your projects will stay intact until next year.
Ornament Tree
A ornament tree makes a great table centerpiece for holiday meals.
For this project you will need a styrofoam cone that you can find at any craft store, silver garland, and several boxes of small or medium sized ball ornaments. Ball ornaments can be purchased very inexpensively at many dollar stores. You will also need a hot glue gun.
First take the silver garland and wrap it around the styrofoam cone, from the base to the top. Secure in place with hot glue and trim off any extra garland. This will cover the styrofoam so that none of the styrofoam will show through the ornaments.
Next remove the tops of the ornaments. Begin by placing ornaments around the base of the styrofoam cone. Gently press the open end of the ornament into the base of the cone. Remove the ornament and place some hot glue into the hole in the styrofoam. Place the end of the ornament into the hole and press for a few seconds until the glue takes hold. Continue gluing the ornaments around the cone.
After the base is complete, start a second row. Continue until the entire cone is covered. You may need to press the ornaments together a bit and place some hot glue in between ornaments to get them to hold in place.
If desired, you can further decorate the ornament tree with a sprig of holiday greenery.
Ornament Wreath
You can also use ball ornaments to make a beautiful holiday wreath, much prettier than any wreath you will find at the store.
For this project you will need a styrofoam wreath, ball ornaments, and a hot glue gun. You will need to purchase several boxes of ornaments for this wreath. It will require 20 or more ornaments to complete it.
Remove the tops of the ornaments. You will need ornaments of a variety of sizes: small, medium, and large. You might start by gluing large ornaments all around the outside of the wreath, and medium ornaments all around the inside of the wreath. Position the ornaments so that the open ends are facing the back of the wreath.
Continue gluing ornaments on the wreath until it is covered. Make sure to also place glue between ornaments. Layer them on top of each other until the desired look is achieved. Use smaller ornaments to fill in any gaps. You can also use large pearls to fill in gaps.
There are a lot of possibilities for tailoring this wreath to match your holiday decor. You can choose whatever color ornaments you like. A wreath with just white and silver ball ornaments is very elegant, and a wreath with red and green ornaments is very festive. Whichever colors you choose, this ornament wreath will be a beautiful accent for your front door.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money to create beautiful holiday decor. With a glue gun, ball ornaments, and some styrofoam, you can create these great holiday decorations in an afternoon.
