What is Habitat for Humanity?

The Habitat for Humanity organization is a non-profit group that works with local businesses and volunteers to help provide affordable housing and promote home-ownership. The organization works to help break the cycle of poverty but offering low-income families the opportunity to own a home which leads to increased stability, better overall health and equity for the future.

Why get involved?

Modular Home Additions, a respected home-builder in the GTA, is currently working with Habitat for Humanity, building a home for the Costa Family. When asked why they choose to get involved with Habitat, Modular had this response: “Building in Toronto and the GTA over the past ten years has been incredibly rewarding to Modular Home Additions. In addition to being voted Best in Town for four years in a row by the local community, supportive online reviews about Modular from past clients helped them win Best of Homestars 2013 Toronto in the Home Additions Category. Because of this, Modular Home Additions is always looking for ways to support the area that has helped them achieve so much. As such the company felt that working with Habitat for Humanity would be an excellent way to help give back. This particular project is dedicated towards helping a large family live comfortably and happily, which is just what Modular strives to do for people everyday. Modular is thankful that they can be apart of such a rewarding project.”

The Habitat for Humanity offers businesses and individuals a wonderful opportunity to get involved, give back to the community and make a lasting difference in the life of another family!

What can you do?

ReStore:
Habitat ReStores sell new and gently-used donated building and household products. You can support the Habitat for Humanity by shopping at your local ReStore location for your next renovation project or donating items you no longer need! There are five ReStore locations in the GTA – you can find details on their website!

Volunteer:
Volunteers make all the difference! Volunteering is a great way to get involved on your own, or with a group of friends, co-workers, classmates, etc. If you don’t have a lot of time, volunteer for a day helping out n a job site, at the ReStore or at a Habitat event. Have a little more time to give? Volunteers are also needed for salvage teams, various committees and more. Visit the Habitat for Humanity website for details.

Donate:
Individuals and corporations can make a big impact through donations. Donations may include one-time donations, monthly donations or gift-in-kind donations (donations of materials or services). Visit the Habitat for Humanity website for more information on how you can give back through donations!
