Colour is one of the first things people see when they enter a room. It creates an instant mood, style and atmosphere of the room, enhancing the architectural and design elements. It can be seen on the walls, furniture or the accessories used to bring extra style to your room.

Choosing the right colour can take your rooms from calm and serene to dramatic and bold. My colour of choice to be used in a room setting is blue. It comes in a myriad of hues that range form the palest of robin’s egg blue to the intense vibrancy of turquoise and to the end of the spectrum of the night sky. These colours are all found in nature. It is for this very reason that I love blue. No matter how you try to lighten or darken it, it will always be blue.

I have 3 types of rooms that I like to incorporate blue in; the living room, the bedroom and the bathroom. The living room and bedrooms can take the darkest of the blues creating a moody, dramatic space nuanced with shades of grey, or even punctuated with a contrasting colour like white or fuschia. In the bedroom, these deep indigo shades allow you to confine the room, to cocoon you, to have no reflection of incoming light, bringing your surroundings closer to the night sky. Using the right colour in your bedroom will enhance your body’s natural clock to give you the tranquil and peaceful sleep that you deserve.
