Keep Cool With a Blue Crush for the Perfect Summer Paint Palette

84529HAs the summer temperatures rise, Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore Colour & Design Expert, recommends using colour in your home to keep you feeling and looking cool.

“Blue is one of the most popular colours in North America and it was a major player in our Colour Trends 2015 collection,” says Grech. From bold azures like In the Tropics (CSP-640) or soft Caribbean Mist (2061-70), there’s a blue for every design personality, she says. Here are a few more of her recommendations:

Blue Neutrals: Whites, beiges and greys are popular, but blue can be used as a beautiful neutral. Think of your favourite blue jeans. Is there a colour you wouldn’t wear with them? Whether you love bold Blue Danube (2062-30) or pale Harbour Fog (2062-70) blue is incredibly versatile and can work in any space. Try complementing blue with greys and browns for a classic look and feel.

Bold Blue Accents: Azure is a bold choice that can add drama to any space. Don’t be bashful using bold colours. As long as you work with high quality paint, you can change a colour with one or two coats. For giving a front door a facelift, try the new Benjamin Moore Aura Grand Entrance, which provides a rich, lustrous finish and has proprietary colourant technology. Introduce bold blue with an accent wall, refinish a piece of furniture with it or create your own abstract artwork.

Keep it Cool: Cooler colours, such as blue, recede and suggest an illusion of more space giving an open, airy feel to small rooms. To enhance this effect, work with pale blues and balance them with crisp whites like Patriotic White (2135-70) and with natural linen accessories. Or try infusing your ceiling or “fifth wall” with an ultra flat finish in blue to add more depth to your space using Benjamin Moore Ceiling Paint. A white on white colour scheme in a room can feel very refreshing by adding a brush of blue on your ceiling. It’s as though you’ve invited the sky into your home.
