Your bathroom can be both functional and beautiful – and it all starts with the right lighting. Most rooms in your home will benefit from layered lighting, however, the bathroom is the space that will reap some of the highest benefits. Adding layered lighting involves including various light sources throughout the space to encompass multi purposes – ambient, accent and task.

And your style does not need to be compromised either as there are vast amounts of lighting styles and fixtures that you can combine to let your personality shine through – crystal chandelier from the ceiling? Yes. Funky pendant lights in lieu of wall sconces? Yes. As long as you layer your lighting, your space will perform in all the ways you require.
There are four (4) types of lighting that, when combined together, create a harmonized lighting story for your bathroom space.
Vanity Lights

The most common of the bathroom lights. Vanity lights can come with the option of between two and five lights. The size of both the mirror, and the size of the room, must be considered when determining which is best for your space.
- A smaller room, such as a powder room, will look best with a 2 light vanity light.
- To view yourself in the best light, a 3 light, or 24” version, is usually considered the minimum.
- When multiple sinks are included on the countertop, include a light over each mirror.
- The full width of the vanity light should not exceed the width of the mirror.
Sconces

Positioning sconces on either side of the mirror is the preferred method when used for personal grooming. When combined with a recessed light above, positioned in line with the sink drain, light is delivered to the face from three directions, eliminating shadows and letting your face shine.
Overhead/Downlight
Recessed lighting, or ceiling fixtures, provide overall lighting, but should not be the primary light source in a bathroom as it will cause your face to be filled with shadows. Pairing overhead lighting with either vanity, sconces and/or mirrored lighting will provide the overall lighting required to illuminate the space fully.
Lighted Mirrors

Illuminate the most important tasks of the day with style and function with a mirror featuring sleek framework LED surrounding a reflective surface creating a shadowbox that is art and light. LED mirrors provide the ultimate lighting for make up application and grooming and can also be used as ambient light.
