Luxury laundry is the next trend in home décor

(NC)—First it was glamorous bathrooms with crystal chandeliers over massive soaker tubs. Then kitchen renovations got the special treatment with exotic wood cabinetry, Italian tile backsplashes and sophisticated appliances that looked as good as they cooked.

So it’s no wonder that the laundry room is the next functional room with a view to a makeover. With all the time we spend washing, drying, ironing and folding clothes, laundry rooms are at last becoming the places we’d actually like to spend that kind of time in.

The trick to a luxurious laundry room is function and form.

Top loading washers and dryers are back. How many times do your small clothing items hit the floor before going from the washer to the dryer? These top-loading washer dryer pairs make it easier to transition clothing from one machine to the other and ultimately create a more ergonomically correct and comfortable laundry experience.

An added bonus is that many of these are also environmentally friendly. For example, the Kenmore high efficiency top loader allows you to save up to 16,400 litres of water every year. That’s enough water to shower once a day for six months.

Many machines also now come in a variety of colours to add a splash of interest to your laundry room and coordinate with cabinetry and other decorative touches.

“With colours like white, grey and purple, doing laundry can now be a beautiful experience. You won’t want to close the door to the laundry room anymore,” says Cindy Jardim, a trend director from Sears Canada.

  • I have seen something of an increase in people wanting well styled utility rooms and laundry areas recently! I’d not really considered it much before but I’d guess that having a fantastic area to do your laundry in would certainly make it a much less monotonous chore!
