Nestled in the rolling hills of Creemore, Ontario is the weekend retreat of a Toronto family, happy to exchange the hustle and bustle of the big city for the leisurely pursuits attached to their rural acreage. But it is not only the beauty of the natural surroundings that has endeared them to the property, it is also the comfort of good design and decoration that their home affords them.
Creemore Cottage
They inherited a house that had modeled itself after something more suburban than “rural recreational”. From its pastel yellow interior to its very beige and formal furnishings, it did not exude the kind of warmth and comfort the homeowners were after. The family planned on doing activities, like biking, hiking, swimming, tennis and skiing alongside the many friends they hoped to have stay with them as guests. The house needed to be able to perform at a high level for food preparation, flexible sleeping arrangements, music jams and lounging in front of the fires (there are three wood burning fireplaces). I set about creating zones for a variety of pursuits that would be able to expand and contract as needed.
