Make your own drapes.
Take a trip to your local thrift store and rummage through the fabric bin if they have one. Check out the bed sheet section as well, as the shapes and sizes will be more uniform. Make sure to measure your windows before hand and make sure to purchase fabrics that are opaque and will block the daylight when you have to put baby down for a mid day nap.

Opt for a convertible crib
You’ll have a few options when shopping for your baby’s first bed: 1. A traditional crib; 2. A crib bed; or 3. A co-sleeper, (which attaches to the side of the parents’ bed). A crib bed is a smart choice because it allows some leeway in terms of side and convertibility, so your child won’t outgrow it as fast. Never underestimate how quickly children grow.
Make your own mobile.
Hit up the craft store and pick up some wire and plastic flowers, or origami paper if you happen to be a semi-skilled folder. If you have light trinkets lying around – like small stuffed animals – incorporate those. Felt or foam are good materials to use to create hang-able shapes with and you can obtain these materials from the dollar store. Just ensure that whatever you choose to use on your mobile is fastened securely.

Combine your dresser and your changing table.
A changing table is one of the bigger ticket items that you can probably live without. Considering the fact that your child will only require changing for a rather short amount of time, skipping the table is a great way to save your wallet and space in your nursery. Instead, purchase a changing pad and secure it onto a low dresser.
Keep it minimal.
Stick to a few big ticket items: the crib, a chest of drawers, and a chair for mommy. Keep in mind how fast your baby will grow and that at some point you’re likely going to have to redecorate, so keep it simple for the first few years of your baby’s life in terms of decor, and instead focus your valuable energy on being a great parent and partner instead!
