Color Drenching: A 2025 Design Trend We Love

What is Color Drenching?

This paint technique has been popular in Europe for many years and is now making waves here in Canada as well. The trend involves painting walls, ceilings, and even trim in the same hue to create a cohesive and immersive environment.

Using a Bold Color

Contrary to the common misconception that darker colors can make a space feel smaller, using rich colors can actually open up a room, providing a sense of depth and comfort. Sometimes less is more. Color drenching allows the bold color to be a feature in the space. Rather than overwhelming a room with excessive decor, simplify and curate your belongings to complement the paint color. By thoughtfully selecting complementary colors and textures, such as pairing a gray sofa with taupe and brown accessories, you can create a harmonious and inviting space.

DESIGN TIPS

For the last decade or so, grey has been everywhere. Chances are, you own a number of pieces in grey colors. The great news is that you don’t have to toss those items! When redesigning a space, you can often work around your existing pieces to create a new, updated look. In this space, we used the existing grey sofa and added bold color to the walls. We then brought in taupes and browns in some of the accessories and side tables for warmth and a few metallic pieces for a hint of luxury. The result is a beautiful room with an updated, designer feel!

Don’t be afraid to mix and match design styles. Here, the deep, regal color of the walls and the soft velvet texture of the sofa provide glam while natural wood pieces and plants bring in a more natural style. The combination or glam and natural creates a more dynamic look to the overall space.
