Nestled in the rolling hills of Creemore, Ontario is the weekend retreat of a Toronto family, happy to exchange the hustle and bustle of the big city for the leisurely pursuits attached to their rural acreage. But it is not only the beauty of the natural surroundings that has endeared them to the property, it is also the comfort of good design and decoration that their home affords them.

The kitchen is the “workhorse” of the house under seige at many times of the day. The materials range from hard baked lacquer finishes on the cabinets, to the no-maintenance Indian slate floors and soapstone and butcher-block counter tops. The peninsula provides storage on both sides while also acting as the second casual eating area. The Tibro stools hug their occupants allowing for lengthy perches over morning coffee. Up a few stairs, one arrives at a second seating area anchored by the coral sectional sofa and tightly upholstered ottoman/coffee table. Custom collage toss pillows, of vintage and original print fabrics, offer texture and counterpoint. Old printing blocks compose an iconic grouping over the slate-faced fireplace.
