When it comes to saving energy, it is always good to start with the basics. Sealing, caulking, and weather-stripping around windows and doors have always provided savings. Upgrading insulation values in your home will also make a difference. For an insulated area of 100 square feet, an attic should be R-50; basement walls R-24, exterior walls R-10, and crawl spaces R-10.
