Did you know that, if you sleep 7-8 hours a night, you’ll spend about 3,000 hours a year in bed? If you add time spent reading, watching movies, relaxing, recovering when sick and the many other activities that take place in our rooms, the bedroom is easy the one room in your home that you will spend the most time in! We’ve compiled tips to help you learn where to save and where to invest when planning your bedroom decor.

Step 2: The Bed

SPLURGE: The bed is the focal point, setting the tone for the rest of the room. When choosing a bed, there are two things you should consider.
1. Function: We already discussed the 3000+ hours you'll spend on your mattress each year. Your bed holds the mattress and a good quality, supportive bed is going to work together with your mattress to improve sleep and comfort. A good quality bed will also hold up much better to the stress that a bed experiences: from tossing and turning when you sleep to kids/pets jumping up to greet you in the morning and everything in between.
2. Style: Yes, you could just put your mattress on a frame and leave it at that but - the bed is the first thing people see when they enter a room and is the first place you should consider when decorating. A bed creates a style statement that will flow into the rest of the space.

SAVE: Choose a bed in a neutral colour with clean, classic lines and you'll be able to update the look and feel of your room over the years without the bed looking outdated.

SMALL SPACE TIP: Short on space? Choose a stylish headboard rather then a full bed set. The headboard will create an eye-catching style statement but the lack of a footboard will allow the room to feel more spacious and open.
