Pantone has released their official Colour of the Year for 2014 – an beautiful, pinkish purple called Radiant Orchid. This colour, which you can expect to see popping up in everything from home decor accessories to fashioh, is said to emanate great joy, love and health.

“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the colour wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Eiseman describes the aesthetic of the hue as an “enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones.”

“Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm,” she said.

In home decor, Radiant Orchid makes a lovely accent colour but also works well as a main colour.  This soft colour blends well with golds, silvers and a variety of different woods which makes it the perfect fit with this year’s hot trend toward mixing materials.

Here are a few gorgeous spaces that use this hue to help inspire your own Radiant Orchid spaces! For more Radiant Orchid inspiration – follow our Colour of the Year board on Pinterest!
