Your home is a space to express your personality and passion. For sports fans, this is often done by plastering the wall with team merchandise and paraphernalia. However, passion and style can absolutely go hand-in-hand. Sharon Grech, Benjamin Moore Colour & Design Expert, shares her tips for a fan favourite entertainment room.
Keep the Crowd’s Roar in the Room: Investing in carpeting, wall prints and heavy-weight curtains will help block light for a theatre-like experience and keep sound from travelling through the home. Upholstered furniture will also absorb sound. Sharon recommends looking for washable fabrics and sleek designs as these pieces will most likely get a lot of use.
Use your Team’s Colours: Take your favourite team’s jersey with you to your local retailer when selecting paint colours and ask them to colour match. Sharon recommends Benjamin Moore Regal Select which comes in thousands of colours and features a paint and primer in one. Many teams have a home game jersey that feature paler colours that can inspire your all-over wall colour. Bolder colours can be incorporated through accent pieces such as up-cycled furniture and frames.
Smart Storage Ideas: You can never have too much storage so invest in multifunctional furniture with hidden compartments, for instance: coffee table chests to stow extra blankets or shelved entertainment units with panels. Incorporating a mini-bar fridge to keep cold beverages close by can be a great touch – consider using a vintage metal or sleek modern glass model to complement the décor.
The Finishing Look: Entertainment rooms need to be ‘livable’ and comfortable – particularly for the eyes. Install dimmable lights and ensure your TV is set to eye level from a sitting position. Sharon recommends trying to pare down sports paraphernalia to a selection of a few favorites as this helps those special collectables stand out and shine without clutter.
