Blue is predicted to dominate the colour movement for the next few years. What’s behind the draw toward blue?

Well, for one thing blue is stable, comfortable and a universally well-liked colour. And then there’s the atmosphere, both environmental and political, as well as global concerns about water that also play a role in the movement toward blue.

Blue is on our minds.

Historically, blue is an accepted colour being considered versatile and reliable. Blue plays no favourites and is popular with all age groups and demographic profiles. If colours were friends, then blue is our BFF.

The trending blue is an aqueous blue. It’s a heritage blue from the 70’s. This blue washes over you in a warm, tropical, watery-type way. It’s a blue with just a touch of green. Both blue and water are calming, serene, ethereal, cleansing, nurturing and fun. But blue is all that and more. Blue is solid, secure, confident and classic.

Blue is a triple threat because of its versatility. In its lighter tones, blue welcomes lovely accents like yellow and orange. In its mid-tone status blue takes on a traditional feel, and then the vibrant tones of blue grant a contemporary status.
