Asymmetry is a great design choice for a modern kitchen, especially when playing with a mix of organic and non-organic materials and colors. In this kitchen, we balanced the asymmetrical island by keeping the design by the windows very symmetrical.

When designing a kitchen, pay attention to the little things like casings,
baseboards, and trim work. If your trim is white and your cabinets are white, make sure you pick a white that complements each other or keeps them consistent. Also, consider upgrades you may do in the future and take that into account when picking out materials and colors.

If you don’t have a ton of natural light pouring into your kitchen, don’t let that stop you from thinking beyond white cabinetry. Working with light-colored cabinets will still work, especially when paired with a bright and punchy tile floor or backsplash.

Work with what you have like we did in this kitchen. This desk area was painted and updated and the top cabinet doors were painted black with mirrors and a molding detail added to copy the stained glass in the adjoining dining room.

Details are a key focus in a monochromatic space. The oversize hexagon tile backsplash and simple yet unique lighting are just a couple of the details that make this space complete. The form and function of the 14’ island create the perfect hub of the home, offering a multipurpose space for all. Whether entertaining guests or gathering with the family for a gourmet meal. It’s the thoughtful details in this kitchen that give it depth and make it really stand out!

This stunning kitchen uses an Iron Grey ceramic surface that is water-impermeable, recyclable, food-safe, scratch-resistant, and acid-proof. It gives a very aesthetic, design-orientated, modern look. We added warmth to the space with a Toronto finish in Cognac Vintage Oak as well.

Make a list of all your small appliances and plan to have adequate storage space so they do not clutter your countertops. Choose extra deep drawers for larger items such as mixers and blenders or large pots and pans, as opposed to multiple smaller drawers.

Not all kitchens need to be gutted. If the bones are good, you can give the kitchen a facelift. In this case, we repaired a few doors and repainted the cabinets instead of replacing them. We then added a new countertop, backsplash, and hardware, giving the kitchen a fresh new look at half the cost of a new kitchen. Not all cabinets can be saved. Talk to a qualified kitchen designer or builder to see what you can do.

Choose where to splurge and save to balance the budget. Here we installed a showstopping backsplash and saved by using melamine material for the cabinets instead of real wood veneer.

Have fun with your kitchen floor by blending two floors together in a hexagon pattern. This creates a flow between the dining and kitchen areas and adds an unexpected touch of whimsy!
