Michael Bobula has worked in the construction industry for many years, taking on a variety of different roles. In 2014,
Michael attended a cottage show in Bancroft, Ontario where he met a gentleman who was chopping wood with an axe,
creating lumber in the traditional hand hewn method. The gentleman agreed to teach Michael and by late 2016, Michael’s passion for this traditional craft became his primary business. A member of the Ontario Wood Association, Michael’s goal is to keep the art of hand hewing alive. He finds pride in knowing that every carefully crafted piece is unique, custom and handmade with no prefabrication.
Canadian Home Trends: If you could have lunch with any one person in the world, who would you pick and why?
Michael Bobula: I would pick my grandfather, I could say any famous person on earth but there is so much information about anyone who is famous. My grandfather wasn’t famous and I have no information about him except what I remember as a young boy. He passed away when I was very young. To be able to talk to him now would mean the world to me.
CHT: If you could go back 20 years, what advice would you give your younger self?
MB: Have more discipline in yourself. Goals are just a wish if you don’t have strong discipline. Also, read more books.
CHT: What is your favorite room in your house?
MB: My livingroom has a high ceiling with a beautiful wood beam at the top and a comfortable sofa with a wood burning fireplace. It is an excellent place to enjoy a good book and a glass of wine.
