Ask an Expert: Choosing Poolside Flagstone

poolside flagstone

What is the best flagstone to use around a pool?

Flagstone is a great choice for around a pool, giving it the earthy look and feel you can only get with natural stone. Flagstone offers a non-slip surface that resists moisture and heat and can withstand constant use with minimal maintenance. Some of our favorites include sand stones, credit valley stone, limestone and bana stones.

Proper installation is key to ensuring the longevity of your pool deck. We start with a concrete base and then mortar with a masonry mix that is 50% Portland and 50% Type S. This is mixed with sand, water and bonding liquid to protect the stones from movement and frost, ensuring a perfect finish for years to come. – Carlo Gil, www.stonecontractors.ca
