Internationally renowned Italian Chef, author, TV personality and restaurant owner, Massimo Capra grew up in Italy and
entered the culinary field as a young man. Having always had an interest in cooking, playing in the kitchen and of course, eating, the decision to pursue cooking as a career just made the best sense. Over the years, Massimo’s love for food has taken him to numerous restaurants and hotels, including his own restaurants in Toronto, Niagara Falls and even Doha, Qatar! He has hosted and appeared as a guest on many TV shows including The Marc & Mandy Show, Gourmet Escapes, CityLine, Restaurant Makeover and Chopped Canada! Massimo has many awards under his belt including the ICCO Canada Italy-Canada Business Person of the Year Award and a gold award from Canadian Culinary Book Awards.

Massimo’s current restaurant, Capra’s Kitchen was launched in 2016 in Toronto. Capra’s Kitchen is a fully integrated sit
down restaurant with a party venue and catering possibilities. With COVID restrictions slowing down events and dining, Massimo is using this time to develop new product lines including sauces and frozen pizzas as well as developing and
improving take out options. Massimo offers a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else. “I cook for myself first” says Massimo, “so therefore the quality of ingredients that I buy, the way I produce them and the way I plate them is different than other restaurants.”

CANADIAN HOME TRENDS MAGAZINE – What inspires you?

MASSIMO CAPRA – I am inspired by food from around the world. There are so many ways to eat the same vegetables, the same meats, etc. All of that variety is like music to me.

CHT – If you could have lunch with any one person in the world, who would you pick?

MC – I would go back a few years and spend time with the Chef from my school who trained me. He really took a personal interest in my well-being and career. At the time, as a young person working crazy hours, I didn’t think to make time to get to know him. I would just talk to him and thank him for everything he did for me back then!

CHT – If you could go back 20 years, what advice would you give your younger self?

MC – Be more assertive. I think I am generally a nice guy but looking back, there are times where I think I could have been a little more assertive and self-confident when pursuing the things that were important to me.

CHT – What is one thing on your bucket list?

MC – I have done some crazy things in my life and I think I am done with the crazy now. But one thing I would love to do is travel Asia, visiting China and Japan. When I can travel again, I would also like to go back to Vietnam and spend a
month there.

CHT – What is your favorite room in your home?

MC – It would be easy to say the kitchen. I spend a lot of my time playing in the kitchen but my favorite room in my home would be my living room. I find peace there. I read, browse the newspaper and study my books. This is the
room where I can just be comfortable.
