How to Style a Room

Designer Jennifer Brouwer explains the importance of planning the little details in our homes.

Lower levels can be a blast! Less seriousness, more playfulness and lower priority. Yet they are important. Who doesn’t want options when it comes to entertaining, especially when there’s family, or even a quiet spot for you – to hide out or get some time to read and not be found? I tried to make this basement blissful. Wallpaper in a barn board panel, creating a ton of impact and softening the space. A non custom cabinet which we tweaked by wallpapering the interior back in a diamond stitch Kravet design. There are baskets for storage and a fun chalk board. In place of a TV we built up a collage of mirrors and fun accessories in a colourful palette providing this small area with enough zest to make it feel bright, comfortable and homey – just the way homes are meant to be.
