As we round the bend into the second half of the decade, we can expect a colourful, eclectic mix of trends. 2015 promises to be an exciting year for design, with some interesting twists on old trends, and some shiny, brand new ones.

Hand Crafted

This is the design equivalent of eating small producer, fair trade and organic. Just like with our food, we want to know where the products we buy come from. Whether made locally or abroad, there has been a turn towards artisanal products, made by hand, with natural materials and traditional manufacturing techniques. We love knowing who the artisans are, what their stories are about, and incorporating a bit of those stories into our lives. Everything, from hand-woven blankets to design-conscious furniture, to tribal art, fits into this category, as long as it was designed and made by a real person’s own two hands. Even some large, retail chains are embracing handmade products and supporting small-scale artisanal workshops in developing countries.
