Designer Challenge: Vote for a Chance to Win!

The Challenge: We asked two designers to create a design board for a modern outdoor living space using SharkSkin Solid Hide and SharkSkin Translucent colors from Cloverdale Paint for their decks.

Jamie’s Look: Layered Sophistication

Layering pieces with clean, sharp lines and contrasting textures like metal, stone and textiles creates a sophisticated yet relaxing space. When creating this look, I chose the blue decking which was inspired by the ocean. I then paired it with a stone exterior to mimic the look of the mountains found on the West Coast. Geometric patterns in the rug and side tables give the space a playful yet modern feel. Pretty throw pillows add a pop of color while adding texture and visual interest to the clean lines of the contemporary furnishings.

Marc’s Look: Nature Inspired Modern

Traditional, nature inspired materials are given a modern twist in this outdoor living space. The focal point, a white stone accent wall with a clean lined fireplace, gives a modern edge while chairs in coordinating wood accents pull the modern fireplace and traditional cedar-toned deck together beautifully. Finish the look with throw pillows in an abstract pattern that will act like artwork in the space for a pop of bright, summer color.
