Creating a second suite in an unused basement is a great way to bring in extra income or provide affordable housing for other family members. Forthese homeowners, the appeal of a second income stream was the motivation for the renovation. The space now offers two bedrooms, a full bathroom, in suite laundry and an open concept living space that is bright and airy!

Light is an important factor whenplanning a basement space. For thisproject, installing larger windows and working with a light color palette maximizes the natural light and allows the space to feel larger and brighter.

An open kitchen with a peninsula breakfast bar makes use of every inch of space to create a unique and highly functional space. The quartz countertops were definitely a splurge but well worth it for the stunning, durable finish they provide. To keep the budget in place, the existing fireplace was worked into the design and the entire suite was outfitted with a quality Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring solution. This option is not only affordable, but also softer and warmer than tile and more moisture resistant than hardwood.
