THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT TO HAVE A REALTOR SO WHY WOULD I GET ONE?
Statistically, the average home does sell quicker and at a higher price when using a real estate agent, but I do know this may not be enough to convince some people to use an agent.
A few years ago, an old college friend negotiated on her own to buy her dream house. It was absolutely gorgeous with brand new appliances and even a hot tub out back. The sale was finalized and everything seemed in order. Upon moving in, she discovered that the appliances had been swapped out with older, cheaper models and the hot tub was gone! Not having a realtor to protect her, she had failed to ensure these things were included in the contract and had no legal recourse.
While a situation like this is unfortunate, it happens all too often to the untrained buyer or seller. It is important to have someone in your corner to support and protect you but also to ensure everything is done correctly and there are no unpleasant surprises!
