Update The Focal Point
Sometimes, simply updating the focal point in the room can make a huge difference. Replacing or removing an outdated fireplace can be an expensive project. Painting out the brick and dark wood mantel and adding a gas fireplace insert took this room from dated to modern and the fireplace is now a selling feature! – Amanda Shields, www.mintconditionstaging.comRethink the Space
Originally, this small dining area had an awkward closet door. Replacing this with a sliding door leaves the space unobstructed and makes the new pantry area easier to access. A creative wall feature adds a decorative touch that doesn’t get in the way of opening the sliding door! – Mary Gordon, www.amaryllishomes.comEnsure a Smooth Transition
Small Decor Changes with a Big Impact. The flooring in this home had been updated to a dark gray color but the traditional staircase did not match. It is important to create a seamless transition from floor to floor so this staircase needed a makeover! We painted the staircase in a modern black and white color scheme and incorporated black, white and gray tones into the runner to create a brighter, more modern look that also made the staircase appear wider! – Laurie Usypchuk, www.lovethishouse.caWell Planned Color
Small touches of well-planned color integration can make a big impact on a space. In this living room, we added pops of yellow and gold in the lighting, decorative accents, florals and throw pillows. This soft, warm color pulls from the tones of the lit fireplace, spreading a feeling of welcoming warmth throughout the otherwise neutral space. – Liliana McInerney, www.upstagebylili.com (Photo by Luiza Matysiak)Out With the Old
The wrong color can date a space and make it seem smaller than it is. Sometimes, all a space needs is an updated color palette. This bathroom received new flooring, a neutral paint color to replace the outdated wallpaper, and a fresh coat of paint on the existing vanity to create a modern, updated bathroom without a major renovation! – Heather Cook, www.homestagingdesign.ca For more great ideas, click here.
