Bathroom Style: Principal, Family or Powder Room?

THE PRINCIPAL – This bathroom, attached to the main bedroom, is typically reserved for the person responsible for paying the mortgage. With great responsibility comes great reward, as they say. The space should look like a fantastic afternoon at a spa where you relax and unwind from a busy working day! Here you will often find heated tiles, a luxurious shower, a large soaker tub, double sinks, lots of lighting, towel warmers and other elegant details.

THE FAMILY BATHROOM – This room will deal with multiple users who may, or may not take great care of the bathroom. It is important to select faucets and vanities that are durable for this space. I also like to use more complex patterns in the family bathroom to help camouflage some of the surface mess. Good lighting is important, as it is in any bathroom where people get ready for the day.

THE POWDER ROOM – The powder room is the room that is almost always used alone and can be expected to be used by most guests who visit your home. This small space is the perfect place to create an emotional and visual break from the rest of the home. You can create a fantasy and express yourself using wallpapers, metallic finishes, murals, or three- dimensional details like book spines or 3D tiles.
