Sand in your toes, the sound of the water, a crackling fire and s’mores; all without moving your car an inch. By dedicating a portion of the backyard to the low maintenance, natural beauty of sand, you can trade in your lawnmower for a rake. Consider a sunken pit or border the perimeter area for sand containment. A drainage layer and landscape cloth may be needed. Detailed DIY instructions or a landscape architect are recommended, along with a foot washing station, fire pit and camp songs.
