Sex and the City gives us not only fantastic fashions but also some fantastic home decor. As Carrie admits to her favourite fashion boutique owner “I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture” and her new apartment shared with Big makes it pretty clear that it was a torrid affair! Clearly wall coverings with large print in neutral colours were a big part of her affair and the medium wood stains prevailed in combination with painted wall units, strong impactful art pieces and lighting fixtures. The grey and blue furnishings of their new apartment (in solid colours) are in contrast to the solid blue walls and patterned fabrics of her old apartment. In either space the real jaw dropper is the closet. In both apartments they are magnificent. The new space features a combination of warms wood tones for him and a paint finish for her with sophisticated hardware, internal lighting systems and enough square footage to open a small boutique. Her old apartment closet has had a paint job in to blues with a built in but more simple and feminine look to it with the detailed over head drop fixtures. I also loved the back splash of the kitchen in aqua blue with a strong geometric detail contrasted by the white painted cabinets. The dining table in warm woods and strong patterned chairs play nicely with the wall coverings throughout. The apartment is accessorized in blues yellow and gold with a variety of metallic and glass details found in light fixtures, candle stick holders and various vases and frames on the shelves.

Based on the fashion in the film and the furnishings of the film, I’m not sure either lover was getting short shrift! It seemed to me more like a polygamous relationship as opposed to anyone cheating on anyone!
